Bespoke Pen Commissions

Bespoke pen commissions
for people who write

For collectors and daily writers alike: a made-to-order fountain pen, built around your grip and your ink, by a studio that has turned 320+ barrels since 2014.

Why bespoke beats boutique

You can buy a nice pen off a shelf. A bespoke one starts with a ruler on your hand. Ours starts with how you hold a pen — section diameter, posting habit, writing angle — and ends with a nib tuned to the pressure you naturally use.

Collectors get numbered builds with documented materials. Daily writers get a workhorse they can hand back for servicing forever. Either way, you're buying the next thirty years, not the next trend.

  • Grip and balance measured to your hand

Commission tiers

Three clear levels. The differences are material rarity and accent work — the writing quality is the same throughout.

How it runs

The commission journey

From first email to the box opening — about eighteen days for most builds, photographed throughout.

Step 01

Fit session

Remote or in the studio — we take grip measurements and look at pens you already like.

Step 02

Blank selection

Real photos of candidate materials with honest notes about working properties and ageing.

Step 03

Turn and finish

Lathe work, a patient cure, then a two-stage hand polish. No lacquer dips, ever.

Step 04

Nib pairing

Steel or gold, tuned to your preferred line and flow, tested on the paper you told us you use.

Step 05

Documentation

Serial number, material record, test sheet and care notes go into the bench report.

Step 06

Delivery

Tracked, insured, flat $12 in Australia. We check in a fortnight later to see how it's writing.

FAQ

Collector questions

More questions? The contact form reaches us within the hour on workdays.

Documented materials, a serial number, and a maker who'll still be around to service it. Limited series like Riverbank tick all three — and they hold value because the timber genuinely can't be repeated.

Gold writes softer and slightly springier; steel is more durable and honest. About 60% of our builds stay steel. We'll tune either to the same standard — the difference is feel, not quality.

Often, yes — we've turned pens from a client's family table, a broken guitar and a jetty piling. Send a photo first; some materials are too brittle or unstable and we'll tell you straight.

Lifetime on workmanship. If a seam opens or a clip loosens, we fix it free — you cover postage. Consumables like sacs and standard nib wear are service items, not warranty items.

It's our second most common brief. We can build to a deadline, engrave the recipient's name and include a hand-written gift note. See gift sets for boxed options.

Book a commission slot

Two to three build slots open each week. Tell us the occasion, the budget and anything you know about how the recipient writes — we'll come back with a written quote and material options.
